Hey y’all! It’s day 3 of my 12 Days of Christmas series. I saw this tag from Like Sally Bee, and thought it sounded fun! So, I’m “tagging” myself for today’s post!
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Hands down. And I’m not picky with the versions; I love the cartoon and the Jim Carrey versions equally. I’ve already watched both of them a couple of times this year, and I’m sure I’ll watch them a few more times each!
2. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
As a kid, I would spend it with my parents and brothers all day, then at my grandparents’ house at night for dinner. Since I’ve moved out of my parents’ house, I spend a couple of hours at their house, then spend some time alone at my place. Last year, I was dogsitting, so I spent some time with the pups, then went to listen to a friend play in Lexington.
3. What is your favorite Christmas song?
I just posted my Christmas Playlist, which includes most of my favorite Christmas songs. I really love “Mary Did You Know?”
4. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Almost all of them, actually. Christmas Eve is my mom’s birthday, so we used to spend all day with her, going to a movie, and doing presents. A few years ago, we decided to start doing her birthday and Christmas combined on Christmas Eve since we were all together anyway. My brothers are now married, with their own kids, so it was hard to coordinate Christmas with the whole family, after spending all of Christmas Eve together too. This year, we’re having Mom’s birthday a week early, and just doing Christmas on Christmas Eve. So yes, I get almost all my presents on Christmas Eve, with a few saved for Christmas Day.
5. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to the most this year?
Hanging out with my family. But since I started going to my church, my favorite Christmas tradition has become going to the midnight service at church. It’s a candlelight service, so it’s beautiful, and it really brings everything together and reminds me what the day is all about. I start Christmas Day by worshipping Jesus, and it’s a tradition I’ve grown to love.
6. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
This is actually my first Christmas tree! I mean, my OWN first Christmas tree. I’ve lived with my parents for most of my life, and I had a roommate last year. After Christmas last year, I went shopping, and snagged a 7 ft. fake free for under $30! I was pretty excited about it, and I’ll be using that one for as long as possible.
7. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
Bake While You Sleep Cookies, and colored ice cubes. Both are family traditions, and both are AMAZING. My grandmother used to make both every Christmas, and I LOVE them. I’ll be posting a recipe for the cookies soon, and maybe the ice cubes also?
8. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Giving gifts. One of my friends told me he didn’t want to do presents this year, and it broke my heart. I LOVE Christmas shopping, and I’d already been planning and purchasing some of his presents. Once he realized how excited I was about getting presents, he finally gave in and said okay. I love finding the perfect little gift for everyone. It’s so much fun.
9. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve received?
Hmmmmm. I’ve received a lot of great presents over the years. My friend Hannah got me a Grinch mug one year, and a Grinch lunch box, and I REALLY love those. I’ve gotten some great presents from both my friends and family over the years, but I’m not sure there’s ONE that really stands out.
10. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
New York. I don’t even care that it’s cliche. It’s one of my favorite places to visit, period, but I’ve only been in the summer/early fall. I would LOVE to go ice skating in Rockefeller Plaza and in Central Park. It’s on my bucket list, and I can’t wait to actually do it someday.
11. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I’m decent. I usually wrap my presents for everyone, and my parents’ presents for the rest of the family (including my own).
12. Most memorable holiday moment?
I remember asking for a photo of Santa’s reindeer one year, and “Santa” left me a note saying he couldn’t leave one because they were magical reindeer that wouldn’t show up in pictures (pretty clever Dad).
13. What made your realize the truth about Santa?
I honestly don’t remember. I think it was just kind of clear at one point, but I can’t remember a defining moment when I realized…
14. Do you make New Years resolutions and do you stick to them?
Ha, I make them… We’ll see if they stick this year (I’ve never stuck to every resolution in the past).
15. What makes the holidays special for you?
Spending time with friends and family. I love doing gift exchanges with my friends and spending time with my nieces and nephew.
