30 Before 30 – My New Year’s Resolution Alternatives

30 is creeping up on me. I turned 28 in September, and it really has me thinking. My friend Jess started a 30 before 30 plan this year, and I thought it was a really good idea. Instead of creating New Year’s Resolutions this year, I’ve created my own 30 Before 30 list.
I’ve come up with 30 items I want to check off before I’m 30. Some of these items are on my basic bucket list, and some are just things I would like to do.

1. Travel to Europe
This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I was supposed to go to Paris next year but plans have been changed, so I’ll have to figure something else out. I mainly want to go to France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, England, and Prague, but I’m open to other places!

2.Travel alone
I think everyone should do things that scare them. Honestly, this one makes me really nervous. I’ve never been anywhere completely by myself (when I visit my best friend in DC I’m by myself part of the time, but never the entire trip). But it’s something I really want to do. I think it would be fun, and I think it would be a good experience.
3. See one of the following in concert again: Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Train, the Plain White T’s
I’ve seen all of these artists, but they’re my favorites. Some of them I’ve seen only once (T-Swift), some of them I’ve seen up to 5 times (PWT’s). All of them I could see over and over and it would be amazing each time.
4. Visit three states I’ve never been to
Visiting all 50 states is on my bucket list. I really want to visit new places, instead of just the same ones over and over, so it’s my mission to visit at least three new ones before I turn 30. And by visit, I mean stay at least one night. I want to actually experience new places, not just travel through them.
5. Buy a house
This has been a goal for a while, especially since I got Remus. I’d love to have a place with a fenced in yard for him.
6. Donate to Locks of Love
This is something I’ve done before, and I think it’s a great goal. My hair’s getting pretty long, so I think it will definitely be achievable.
7. Make a scrapbook as a gift
I love to scrapbook. I’ve made a few scrapbooks as gifts in the past and it’s always been something I’ve loved. I’d really love to do this again soon!
8. Learn to sew
This has been on my list for a while. I think it’s a great skill to have, and I really want to learn. I just need to figure out a good time to take a class!
9. Learn to handletter
This is something I’ve dabbled in. I’m okayyyyyy but I’d really like to be able to handletter well. I just think it would be such a fun thing to be able to do!
10. Bottle feed a bear cub
This is very high up on my bucket list. Like, #2 on my bucket list. I really can’t wait, and it would make me so happy!
11. Do a 5K without walking
This has also been a goal for a while. It’s something I really want to be able to do. I just hate running, so it’s difficult for me to stick with it. But I really, really want to try!
12. Skydive with Mom
My mom really wants to go skydiving. Although it terrifies me, I think it would be something I could do. So I think I’m going to do this with her!
13.  Publish 3 blog posts a week for a month
I really need to step up my blogging game. I think this goal is very achievable; I just need to buckle down and make myself work to get it done! I really want to step up my blogging game so this is something I really, really want to do.
14. Lose 40 pounds
This is something some people may scoff at. But realistically, I think this is an obtainable goal. And it’s something that I really need to do for my health. So I’m putting this in to really motivate myself to get on a healthier track.
15. Teach Remus 10 new tricks
Remus is a Border Collie. He is a smart pup. He’s both toy and food motivated, so this should be fairly easy. I just really want to give him more attention and work his brain a little more to help keep him busy.
16. Put $1,000 in savings
This is something that’s really important for me. Right now, I have a very low amount of savings. I really want to change that and get in the habit of saving.
17. Give up soda except on holidays
This is going to be hard for me. I love Sprite, Ginger ale, and Diet Pepsi. Sometimes I really just crave carbonation. But I’ve found carbonated flavor water, and I really want to start drinking more of these and cutting back on the soda. Now, I left holidays in for a specific reason. My family always makes colored ice cubes. It’s a holiday tradition for us. They’re served with Mountain Dew, and this isn’t something I’m willing to give up!
18. Spend a weekend in Green Lake, WI
I went to Green Lake two summers in a row in high school. I fell in love with the place. It’s really gorgeous, and I really want to go back. It’s so relaxing, and I’d love to spend a weekend there within the next year. This may be the trip I take by myself!
19. Take a cooking class
I enjoy cooking. I think it would be really fun and helpful to take a professional cooking class.
20. Take a photography class
I’ve dabbled in photography since I was little. However, I’ve never taken a full class, and I think this would be really beneficial for me. Blogging has definitely helped my photography game, but I think a class would be really nice.
21. Participate in a progressive dinner
I’ve always wanted to take part in a progressive dinner! I think it would be really fun!
22. Get a professional facial
I’m not always the best with my skincare. I think a facial would be really nice, and it would be a nice little treat.
23. Become a pen pal
I love to write. I’ve loved writing since I was a little girl. That’s why I started a blog in the first place. But I love physically writing the most. I miss it, and I’d love to find a pen pal to write letters to on a regular basis.
24. Try 50 new recipes
Again, I enjoy cooking. I think setting a goal for myself to try 50 new recipes will be a good way to get myself to try new things.
25. Eliminate all credit card debt
This goes along with getting money into my savings account. I really want to be more financially stable, and part of that means paying off all my credit card debt. This may mean less shopping, less eating out, and less activities, but I think it’ll be really good and will be worth it.
26. Find a job I actually enjoy
Right now, I’m just not enjoying myself. I really want to get into a job that I enjoy and that makes me happy.
27. Learn to tithe
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I think once I get some money in savings and some credit paid off, this will be easier. I also know that if you give to God, He will provide for you. So this is one of my financial goals before I turn 30 – to be able to tithe successfully.
28. Learn to drive a stick shift
If I were in an emergency situation and had to drive a stick shift, I would be in big trouble. This is just something I would like to be able to do.
29. Compete in a horse show again
I started riding hoses at the age of 8. I loved it. When I went to college, I joined the Equestrian Team. I don’t necessarily want to start showing on a regular basis again, but I would really like to participate in a show or two. It’s something fun for me, and I do miss riding.
30. Try 30 restaurants in Lexington that I’ve never been to
I’m posting a list soon of 30 restaurants I want to try in Lexington. Some are local favorites, and others are just what I’m dying to try. I think this one will be a very fun experience.
That’s it for now! I’ll come back when I’m 30 for an update to let you guys know how I did! I’ll definitely need help with some of these, so be sure to let me know if you want to participate in any of these activities with me!
Also let me know if you have any suggestions for me on completing my list! Let me know in the comments some things you want to do before a certain age!

    Ahhh this is so cool! I found myself nodding along to so many of these. I’m actually taking a photography class in a couple weeks just because I really want to get better at that this year. I’ve been eyeing taking one of the hand lettering classes from Level Up too. And girl yes to the credit card debt one. I ran mine up last year and am so excited to get it paid off fully this year {#goals}

I can’t wait to find a good photography class to take! I’ve done a handlettering class, I just really need to buckle down and practice! Credit card debt is the worst!

These are all great! I’d also like to lose about 40 pounds… it’s achievable but so hard! I’m rooting for you! I also want to learn hand lettering. If you ever want a local(ish) pen pal, I love writing letters as well! I loved reading this list!

It is hard! But in a year and a half it should definitely be achievable! And YES I would love a pen pal, local or far!
