Pickle Beer Rankings

Happy National Pickle Day! November 14 is National Pickle Day, and my little pickle loving heart couldn’t be happier. One pickly think I’ve found that I love is pickle beer. Pickle beer isn’t everyone’s taste. Some people love pickles, some people hate them, and some people are in between. I’m a self-proclaimed pickle queen (check out this post to see the Pickle Festival I attended last year), and absolutely adore pickles. I’ve tried several pickle beers, and will taste every one I can find. I wanted to do a little ongoing ranking that I can update with all the pickle beers I try, so here are my pickle beer rankings!

1. Line Creek Brewing The Real Dill

Peachtree City, GA

I tried my first pickle beer in June of 2022 in Peachtree City, Georgia. I’d heard about their pickle beer and knew I wanted to try it, so when I went down for a little vacation, Line Creek Brewing was high on my list. When I went back in May 2023, I went back to the brewery, and The Real Dill was just as good the second time around. It holds the number 1 spot for me – the taste is great, and maybe the nostalgia helps its ranking for me, but I love this beer.

2. Akasha Brewing No Big Dill

Louisville, KY

My friend Alicia sent me Akasha’s Instagram post about their pickle beer, and I made an immediate trip to try it… with zero regrets. It definitely deserves a high spot on this list. It’s a gose, but it’s not overly sour (which is my top beer choice). My friend Kirstin isn’t a gose girl, and even she loved it. It was absolutely delicious, and easily moved into a high ranking.

(Side note: this pickle hat is so adorable!)

3. Brewer Dude Encumbered

Lexington, KY

I was at an event in Lexington, and my friend Kirstin made sure I was aware there was a new pickle beer in the area (she texted, called, and Instagram messaged me multiple times until I answered). And thank goodness she did. This beer is light, perfect for summer, and absolutely delicious.

4. Urban Artifact Pickle

Cincinnati, OH

Urban Artifact releases a beer called Xmas Pickle every holiday season, which I learned about in 2022, and I finally got my hands on it in December. It was so good. They finally made it permanent in March of 2023, so I headed up to their taproom in Cincinnati as soon as I could. I love that it’s available all the time now, making it easily accessible (I will happily head up to Cincy to pick some up). Plus, I love the new packaging – pickles and bears, which is made for me.

5. Rock House Brewing

Lexington, KY

I attended Rock House Brewing’s 2023 Pickle Run – a charity “run” consisting of .25 miles, ending in a trip to their bar for pickle beer. The first time I tried to go, the pickle beer was out, so I was very excited to try it – and I was not disappointed. And it was worth the wait. The beer was smooth and delicious.

6. Key Brewing Co Summa Brine

Baltimore, MD

The Big Dill Pickle Festival was on my radar as soon as I saw a Facebook post for it, and bought tickets as soon as they dropped. It was my 33rd birthday weekend in 2022, in Maryland, and was an absolute blast (check out my full blog post about the event here). They had a few pickle drinks, and the beer from ___ kept me coming back. It was so delicious and refreshing on a hot day outside, and I had a few both days.

7. Atrium Brewing Michelada

Louisville, KY

Micheladas are a new discovery for me, but I’m so glad I found them. They remind me of Bloody Marys, which I love. This was part of their 2025 Picklefest releases, and it was my second favorite in that release (I did get a flight of the four pickle beers from the release, and I love that they had those option). I would absolutely order it again if I went back while it was available. It could have used a little more pickle flavor, but the overall drink was really good. It had a mix of tomato and spices, which I loved.

8. Blue Stallion Pickle Vick

Lexington, KY

Blue Stallion occasionally drops their Picke Vick beer, so I obviously had to try it when I attended a Friendsgiving at the brewery in 2023. It was good, and I’d definitely drink it again, it just wasn’t as pickle-y as the beers higher up on this list.

9. Hi-Wire Wickles Pickles

Louisville, KY

I’ve seen this one advertised, but haven’t been drinking pickle beer while it’s been released (that I know of). Engine House Pizza Parlor in Winchester, KY posted on their social medias that they were tapping it, so I dropped in to try it. It’s a pickle sour inspired by Wickles Pickles. It has a bit of a pickle aftertaste (it takes a moment to settle in) but it’s not as pickly as I prefer. It does also have a hint of spices in it too, which I haven’t found in most other sour pickles (usually only the spicy pickle beers have that), but it wasn’t overwhelming like some of the spicy beers I’ve tried.

(Side note: this pickle sweatshirt is perfect for pickle adventures!)

10. Ten20 Brewing Dill-licious

Louisville, KY

This beer was a part of Ten20’s Pickle Week, with 4 different drink options. I did like it, and would absolutely drink it again. I loved the pickle garnish. The only thing I didn’t like, was the amount of pickle taste. There was a pickle vibe, but I just prefer my pickle beers to have a ton of pickle flavor, and this one was slightly lacking with that.

11. Destihl Brewery Suckerpunch Sour

Normal, IL

My friend found cans of these at a gas station in Louisville, and I picked some up on my next Louisville trip (almost immediately – I’m serious about trying as many pickle beers as I can). The cashier was absolutely baffled that someone would want to drink it, but alas, here I am. I did like this one. Sour beers are definitely my preference. I just didn’t LOVE this one. It was good, and I would drink it again, but it was just lacking a little something for me.

12. Atrium Brewing Watermelon

Louisville, KY

There wasn’t anything wrong with this one, I just didn’t love it. It was pickly with a watermelon flavor, which was interesting and, in my opinion, just didn’t work great together. It was part of their 2025 Picklefest releases, and it was my second favorite in that release (I did get a flight of the four pickle beers from the release, and I love that they had those option). I would probably order it again if I went back while it was available. It was a gose, but didn’t have a tart taste like my favorite goses (refer to #2 on this list).

13. Atrium Brewing Pickle G

Louisville, KY

Although goses are usually my favorite, this one was just OK for me. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t love it. It was part of their 2025 Picklefest releases, and it was my third favorite in that release (I did get a flight of the four pickle beers from the release, and I love that they had those option). It was a collab with Pop’s Pepper Patch, which means it did have a kick to it. Spicy pickle beers just aren’t my favorite, and I would order this one again if there wasn’t anything else I wanted to try on the menu (side note, not pickle related, they DID have a pb&j sour on their menu that was absolutely fantastic, 10/10).

14. Rock House spicy

Lexington, KY

During the Pickle Run I talked about with beer #2, there was a spicy option along with the regular option. Of course I had to try both. It was good, but I preferred the regular version better. It had a little bit of a kick, but the spice wasn’t overpowering, so I still liked it.

15. Urban Artifact Spicy Pickle

Cincinnati, OH

Like Rock House, Urban Artifact also has a spicy pickle beer. Unlike Rock House, the kick in this one is a little too overpowering for me. I like spicy things, but I like a mild-medium heat. The heat in this one is just a little too much for my own personal taste, but for someone looking for a little heat, this one may be higher up.

16. Hi Wire Hula Pickle

Louisville, KY

This one was disappointing for me. It had a kick to it (I’m really realizing I’m not a big fan of spicy variants of pickle beer), and that just wasn’t my favorite. It wasn’t super spicy, but it was enough to make me dislike this one..

17. Blue Stallion Brewing Burnin’ Gherkin

Lexington, KY

Surprise surprise, another spicy pickle beer. While I do like their original Pickle Vick, this one was a sour pickle lager with habanero. I couldn’t taste the sour at all, which is always disappointing for me, but it may be because the spice overpowered the sour flavor. They released this for their 2025 Pickle Bash, which was such a fun event (the pickle pizza they had was absolutely fantastic). I also mixed the regular up with the spicy while taking photos (content creator problems), and made the mistake of drinking the original first and this one last, which was a struggle for me and I think gave me an even bigger dislike of the beer itself. Not their fault at all, but it probably caused it to move this far down the list. If they have it again, I may give it another chance to redeem itself a little, but for now it’s unfortunately a no-go for me (especially if Pickle Vick is also on the menu with it).

18. Atrium Brewing 100X Pickle G

Louisville, KY

This one, unfortunately, was an easy bottom of the list pick for me. My friend Jess LOVED it. BUT, again, I am not a big fan of the spicier beers… and this one is the spiciest beer I’ve ever tried. It’s a collab with Pop’s Ghost Pepper mash… and that description should explain my dislike of it. I tried a sip, and Jess and I traded a pick from each of our flights. She did really like it, but I absolutely did not. It was part of their 2025 Picklefest releases, and it was my least favorite in that release (I did get a flight of the four pickle beers from the release, and I love that they had those option).

That’s it for now, but I definitely plan on keeping this list updated. If I see a pickle beer, I’m definitely going to try it. When I do, on the list it’ll go! If anyone has any recommendations for me (and ideas of where I can get it in the Lexington, KY area), please leave me a comment on this post or send me a DM on my Instagram (and follow me there for more pickle adventures)!
