Casual Chic Black & White Stripes + Red Cardigan

Spring is coming, and that means fashion trends are changing. I love bringing out lightweight cardigans and shorter sleeves that have been hidden under thick coats all winter.

I found this adorable red cardigan at Nordstrom during their winter sale. It’s 40% off right now and is perfect for the upcoming spring season. It’s been warming up here in Kentucky, but there are definitely still some chilly days coming. I love pulling out cardigans for those colder days.

My favorite part of the cardigan is the sleeves. They’ve got a bell sleeve look, but with a slit, and a gorgeous tie. It adds a little detail so the cardigan isn’t just the typical “basic” cardigan. I love that the sleeves fit the length of the arm before they tie. I hate when the tie is halfway up my forearm before the sleeves actually end.

I also love the longer length of the cardigan. I wore it to work over leggings (I know, I know, leggings aren’t really “work appropriate” – BUT the cardigan completely covers everything, which makes it a little more acceptable in my opinion.

I love a basic black and white striped shirt for any season. My mom found this tunic at Old Navy a couple of years back, and it’s help up really well. They’ve got some great basic tees, and they’re so comfortable. I think the black and white goes well with the brightness of the red cardigan. Layering is a trend that’s going to stick around for a while, and I love pairing a cute cardigan over a basic tee. It’s so simple!

Like I said, I wore this outfit to work, but then I wore it to dinner and a friend’s step daughter’s play. It was classy enough for work, yet casual enough for the play. I paired it with solid black flats, which I think polished off the outfit really nicely. I love a good pair of black flats, and this pair from Target is so comfortable. They can last me all day without making my feet uncomfortable, which is a challenge for me.
