I love product empties posts, on all social media forms. I think it’s really helpful seeing what products people have finished up, because they’ve truly tried them enough to do full reviews on them. I have quite a few beauty products that I recently finished, so I’m going to Oscar the Grouch style review my beauty empties and talk about what I plan to repurchase… or leave in the trash.
Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo is my favorite dry shampoo. I’ve tried different brands, and keep coming back to this one (the Warm Sugar scent is so good). I finished two full sizes and a travel size. I use this mostly for my bangs, because they get oily quicker than the rest of my hair, but I do use it on my whole head about once a week as well. I wash my hair once a week ish, and use this dry shampoo about halfway through to extend my wash cycle, and I see a huge difference in my hair when I use it. I won’t currently be repurchasing these, because I already have backups ready to go. I will repurchase the travel size if I plan any trips in the near future, but no plans for that as of now.
I wanted to try an exfoliating body wash, and settled on the OGX Coconut Coffee scrub & wash. The scent was OK, but nothing really special, and I didn’t notice any lingering scents throughout the day. I won’t repurchase this one, just because I didn’t see many benefits with it and I already had other body washes to use. I also sometimes get rashes, especially in the heat, and this really didn’t mix well with that. I prefer a gel so I don’t get irritation from my showers as well.
The Love Beauty and Planet shampoo is my favorite. It leaves my hair feeling clean. I have really thick hair that sometimes feels icky even after washing, and I never get that with this one. I have the conditioner also, but I go through shampoo about twice as quickly as shampoo, so that one isn’t complete yet. I already had a backup of this one that I picked up when it was on sale, so I don’t quite need to repurchase it yet, but I have repurchased this over and over in the past.
I love Kiss products. I use their press on nails pretty frequently, and have for years. But sometimes I can use a little help with the application and removal of those nails. The Kiss Max-Speed nail glue is a favorite. It keeps my nails on a little longer, adding some extra grip to the press-ons. Or, if I’m using glue-on nails, I use this instead of the glue the nails come with. I like that it’s quick-drying, and very affordable. I used up two bottles of the Kiss Glue Off – a product that’s truly been a game changer for someone who uses fake nails often, like myself. Sometimes nail glue can work a little TOO well, and the nails can attach to my actual nails and are difficult to remove. This glue off helps me get those stubborn nails off without damaging my real nails, which I love. I found it late in the fake nail game, and I wish I’d found it sooner. I already had backups of both these products ready to go when I finished them, so I won’t need to repurchase for a bit.
I finished two perfumes, and neither of these are surprising to me. I discovered the Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato perfume in late 2023/early 2024, and it honestly wasn’t instant love. It took a few uses to grow on me, but once it did, I was hooked. This perfume lasts all day on me, and I get compliments every single time I wear it. It’s a gourmand scent that gives off the sweetest scent, and I love it so much. I finished a couple of travel sizes of it last year, but toward the end of the year I also finished off the larger size. I already have a travel size backup, so I don’t need to repurchase this one yet, although I’m close to finishing that up as well. But I do have a few other perfumes I need to work my way through, so I’m going to do that before doing another repurchase of this one.
I also finished a travel (I say travel, but they have a medium size bottle that I usually go for, but the travel size is the same in ounces) in the Kayali Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar perfume. I didn’t care for this one; I really just finished the bottle to get it out of the way. The scent was OK, but I didn’t love it, and I didn’t find that it lasted that long. Or, at least, I never really noticed it throughout the day, and nobody complimented me while wearing it like they do with the Pistachio scent. This one will not be a repurchase, and I’m glad I only got the smaller size.
I finished two smaller bottles of the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. I love using these for travel. They’re great for removing my makeup, especially when I do colorful looks (which is pretty frequent when I do travel). I took a few trips last year, and finished both these up during those trips. I do have a larger bottle already that I use for regular use, so if I need these sizes again I’ll just refill them from that and then repurchase the full size if I run out of that.
Now, a REAL accomplishment… I have FOUR lip balm empties that I recently used up. Technically 3 – the green labeled one I received in a mail order and hated it (the scent was awful and it did nothing for my lips). I have quite a few lip balms already, so I don’t need to repurchase these, but I am proud of keeping up with all of them long enough to use them up. I feel like I lose lip products so easily, and that’s frustrating.
I finished two eyeliners recently. The E.L.F. No Budge Retractable Eyeliner is one of my favorites that I’ve repurchased several times. I love it for my lid, but also for my waterline. Some liners bother my waterline, but this one is perfect every time. I already had a backup so I don’t need to purchase another just yet. The L’oreal Liner Noir is a felt tipped liner. A wing is pretty standard in my eye looks, and felt tipped liners are my preferred way to achieve that look. This one was good, and I would repurchase it, but I have a few other options I need to get through first.
I received a deluxe sample of the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, and decided to use it when I ran out of my Not Your Mother’s Texture Spray. I wasn’t a big fan of this one. I didn’t see great results and I just feel like my Not Your Mother’s gives me better volume and doesn’t make my hair as sticky. Another product I won’t repurchase (but I will repurchase the NYM).
My eyebrows are very blonde, and I usually fill them in with a brow powder or tinted brow gel. The NYX Brow Glue did an OK job, but it wasn’t my favorite. I liked it at the beginning, but toward the end the bristles on the applicator just became too difficult to use. I also had the Dark Brown shade, and it was a little too dark for me. It was a little messy also, and I have other tinted brow gels that I prefer, so I won’t be repurchasing this one.
Glow Recipe products are hit or miss for people, I think (they do have fragrance in them, which I know a lot of people can’t handle), but I really love the Plum Plump line. The Hyaluronic Cream and Hyaluronic Serum are two products that I’ve repeatedly purchased. I used up deluxe sizes of both. I do use these when I travel. Like the Garnier Micellar Water, I just clean these bottles out then refill them with my larger sizes when I need them for trips. I do use the larger sizes in my daily skincare routine, but I have a few other products that I want to dig into soon, so for now I won’t be repurchasing them (even though I do love them – they make my skin look so healthy and glowy).
I’ve struggled with acne my whole life. It’s more under control now than it was when I was younger, but I still do get occasional breakouts. I love Peach Slices Deep Blemish Microdarts for those times when I do get breakouts. It really helps reduce blemishes quickly. I apply them overnight and let them do their thing, then remove them in the mornings. I bought a couple of packages last time I ordered them, so I don’t need more at the moment, but I probably will be repurchasing once those run out.
Benefit Prefessional was my go-to mattifying primer for a while, but I’ve found others that I liked better. i did receive a sample size, and wanted to use it up, so I threw it into my rotation until it was finished. I use this along with other primers, just around my T-zone, to minimize the look of pores on my skin. I do like it, but it’s just not my favorite anymore (and it’s a little pricey).
Now, let’s discuss a few products that aren’t technically empties, but I wanted to include anyway. These are products I did hit pan on toward the end of last year, and I count those as huge wins. I am doing a Project Pan for 2025, so stay tuned for that (these are a little sneak preview).
When Rare Beauty dropped their Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighters, I pounced on them… and I’m so glad. Enlighten is my perfect shade, and the formula is so good. A lot of people have dropped these and shattered them, but (knock on wood) mine is still going strong. It’s been a long panning process, because highlighters don’t require much product at one time, but I’ve definitely made quite a bit of progress in it!
Eyeshadow palettes used to come with nude shades like this, but it seems like most don’t anymore, especially more colorful palettes (my preference, for the most part). I love having a nude shade like Brulee from Wet N Wild to set my eyeshadow primer with. It’s $4 for two of these single shadows, and they’re prefect for that purpose. I have a significant amount of pan in this shadow, because I use it almost every time I do an eyeshadow look. I’ll definitely be repurchasing it once I get a little closer to completely using it up.
The Patrick Ta Creme and Blush Duos are so loved in the makeup community… for good reason. Well, at least the cream shade is for good reason, in my opinion. I love love love the cream shade. It’s a gorgeous shade on me, and the formula is so good. It gives such a pretty skinlike glow that I love. I’m not a big fan of the powder formula, honestly. I wish they were available separately, because I would consider repurchasing the cream formula down the road. The powder formula isn’t the same shade as the cream (see below, you can really tell the difference), and I just don’t really like it on my skin. I do also have quite a few blushes in my makeup collection, so once this runs out, it’s gone for good unless they launch the creams individually.
I’ve been using the Anastasia Brow Powder duos for quite a bit. I’d hit pan on the lighter shade early last year, but when I dye my hair darker, I love using the darker shade. I hit pan on that one late last year, and expanded the pan in the lighter shade. Like I mentioned with the NYX brow glue, my brows are very blonde, and these powders shade them in very nicely and make them look really natural.
A surprising love for me for 2024 was this Juvia’s Place liquid duochrome shadow in the shade Fula. It gives a gorgeous wet, sparkly look to the eyes. I get compliments every single time I wear this, from friends who know me to complete strangers. I’ve used up over half of it already, and will be repurchasing once I run out. I wear it when I need a really simple, effortless, zero time eye look that looks absolutely stunning. I can throw it on with mascara and a brow gel and run out the door and it looks so crazy good. I already had to take the stopper out to maximize the amount of product I could get out of the container.
Last but not least, we have one product that I’m calling an empty, that isn’t really empty. Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint looked so good on my skin when I first got it. I love glowy, dewy face products. Unfortunately, this one went bad pretty quickly. I noticed the product starting to separate on my skin, and it started to have a funky smell. I’ve heard from other reviews that this is unfortunately a common problem, so I’m going to just go ahead and toss it.
Shew, I feel very accomplished! This is my last empties round of 2024, and I can’t wait to see what products I can go through in 2025! Be sure to subscribe to be notified when my Project Pan post is live – it’s coming very, very soon (Click here if you want to see a previous Project Pan I did)!
