The Simple Greek

*This post is sponsored by The Simple Greek. I was given the meals for free in exchange for my review, but was not compensated in any other way.

A couple of weeks ago, The Simple Greek saw my 30 Lexington Restaurants before 30 post and invited me out to sample some of their menu items (their words, remember this). I love Greek food, and I’d seen some friends (mostly, Kelsey from Kabkitchen) post about The Simple Greek once it opened, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
The menu starts with two options: a pita (white or wheat) or a bowl (with lentils, rice or salad). I chose a bowl with brown rice, with no regrets. I like pita, but I am a very messy eater, and I prefer pita with hummus.
Next, the protein choices: chicken gyro, grilled steak, grilled chicken, or traditional gyro (a combination of lamb and beef). I opted for the traditional gyro meat. Lamb is my favorite meat, and I will happily devour it at any chance given.
Then… the toppings. So. Many. Topping. Choices. I added read onions, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. The traditional Greek toppings. All such good combinations, and partially why I love Greek food.
Last but not least, the sauces and imported finishes. There are four sauce options: hummus, Garlic Cream, Tzatziki, and Greek Dressing. Rhonda recommended the Garlic Cream sauce to me, and I want to thank her. It was SO GOOD. I’m a sucker for anything garlic, and this sauce was amazing. I love traditional Tzatziki sauce, so I added that as well. I finished my meal with salt and pepper.
So, when they invited me to “sample” some menu items, I was not expecting the full spread. The bowl alone was amazing and so filling (I ended up taking half of it home), so a huge thank you is in order. What I also didn’t expect, was a full order of fries, a drink, and dessert to be included.
I decided to try the Greek fries – fresh cut fries topped with feta, oregano, garlic salt, and red wine vinegar. I want these fries as my side for every meal. The red wine vinegar added a little bit of a bitter taste, but the feta matched it perfectly. It was a very good combination, and I highly recommend trying them out.
The last item I tried was the Baklava, a traditional Greek dessert. It was topped with imported honey, and was absolutely delicious. They also have Baklava Cheesecake, which is next on my list of things to try on the menu.
What I liked about The Simple Greek: The meals are large portions. I had enough for two meals just with the bowl alone. The food was amazing, and I love that it’s healthy! It can be unhealthy, but there are so many options that allow your meal to be a healthy choice. It’s very flavorful and enjoyable. The staff was very friendly. Rhonda created my meal, and was very helpful, polite, and fun to talk to. She gave her recommendations, and those are what I went with – and I was not disappointed.
What I didn’t like: It’s not closer to my office. Honestly, that’s my only complaint. I need one of these right beside me at all times.
Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and enjoyed myself and the food. I will definitely be returning (seriously, that cheesecake is calling me).
Have you been? Did you get the gyro or the bowl? Any recommendations for me for next time? Let me know in the comments below!
