Fresh fruit is one of my favorite things about Summer. If you’ve been here a while, you already know I’m a Fall girl, but fresh fruits and veggies are a huge bonus of the warmer months. Ripe peaches and blackberries are delicious, and I headed out to Eckert’s Orchard in Versailles to pick my own last week. Check out my photos and review of the orchard below, as well as my outfit details at the bottom of this post.
Eckert’s Orchard has rows and rows of berries and peaches ready to pick. I went out with my friend Alex of Lex Food Guide, and we found a row with what looked like a billion berries. They were the biggest blackberries I’ve ever seen (we taste tested a couple while picking, and they were so juicy and delicious too). I brought home a box with as many as I could carry.
James had nothing on the peaches from Eckert’s Orchard. They weren’t quite ripe yet when we picked them, but after a few days, they were juicy and ready to eat. I love peaches, so I’m very excited about these (check out my peach prosecco punch recipe to see a great way to use up fresh peaches, even if they’re a little over ripe).
I love that both of these yummy fruits are great fresh or frozen. As fresh snacks, and also for freezing for a later date. They’re also versatile. Both of these options are great in cobblers and smoothies, both of which I plan on making very soon. Frozen peaches and berries make great smoothie mixers, and smoothies are a summer staple in my kitchen.
I love the little town of Versailles. I have a post coming soon featuring some of my favorite Versailles locations, and Eckert’s is definitely going to be included. It’s great for kids and adults, and I highly recommend picking your own peaches and berries! Stop by the Apple Blossom Cafe while you’re there. They currently have peach slushies, which are a great way to cool off after an afternoon of picking fresh fruit.
Now, I know some of you are only here for my outfit details, so this paragraph is for you. I wanted to wear something light and pretty in the summer heat, and this dress was perfect. I put a cami underneath, to make it a little less revealing. A good felt hat can be a great outfit addition (check out this post and this post to see a couple of ways I’ve styled hats in the past). They’re cute, they add a little something extra to outfits, and they help keep the sun off your face. I wasn’t sure how much walking there would be at the orchard, so I wanted to wear comfortable shoes. These sandals have been a staple in my wardrobe this summer, and they were perfect for picking. I stayed with the fruit theme, and paired these watermelon earrings with the outfit, and used the BH Cosmetics Mimosa palette to create a summery makeup look.
What other ways do you use peaches and berries? If you have a great recipe for me to check out, leave me a comment! I’d love to try some new foods!
