2021 Project Pan

2021 has been here for a bit, so I want to restart my project pan series. I’ve done this in the past (check out this post for my 2018 project pan), and it really motivates me, so it’s something I want to continue. It really helps keep me on track to use up some of my makeup and skincare, which is always a good thing. Scroll to the bottom for a complete list of my previous project pan posts

I know it’s already the end of February, but I’ve already been working on these products and making progress and wanted to share what I’m working on, as well as my goals for these products.

Eye Makeup

Eyeshadow Palettes

I have four eyeshadow palettes I want to focus on this year: The ABH Sultry palette, Colourpop It’s a Princess Thing, Too Faced Pumpkin Spice (2020 release), and Marc Jacobs Steeletto. The Colourpop palette is the only one available for purchase anymore, so once most of these palettes are used up, they’re gone for good.

I worked hard on using my ABH Sultry palette in May of 2020, and I hit pan on quite a few shades (I started 2021 with pan in 4 shades in this palette, and very close to one more). I want to work on this palette this year also. I’m sure I can finish up a couple of shades, and hit pan on a few that I haven’t quite reached yet.

Another palette I want to work on is the Colourpop It’s a Princess Thing palette. I received this one for Christmas a couple of years ago. It’s a gorgeous palette, and one of my favorites (check out this post to see a tutorial for a makeup look I’ve created using this palette). I think it would be easy for me to use it, because I really love the shades in the palette (also, The packaging is on this palette is so gorgeous. While I don’t have any specific shades I’m aiming to hit pan on, the goal is to hit pan on at least 3 shades.

The Marc Jacobs Eyeconic palette in Steeletto is a really pretty cool toned palette, which is always my favorite. I clearly love the glitter shade in this palette (it’s STUNNING), and I definitely think I can hit pan on that shade. It’s a gorgeous shade for a night out, which I don’t know will happen this year, but the other shades in here are also really pretty. Again, no goals for specific shades in here, other than the glitter shade. I just want to try to use it as much as possible this year.

The Too Faced Pumpkin Spice palette was a birthday gift last year, and it’s so gorgeous. I’ve talked about it a few times here on the blog (check out this post and this post to see a couple of eye looks I’ve created using this palette), because it’s one of my favorites. I feel like I got a ton of use out of it from September on last year, and I want to keep using it a ton, so I’m putting it in my project pan as motivation. I’ll probably get the most use out of it in the Fall (I included it in my 10 Favorite Fall Eyeshadow Palettes post), so the progress for this one will probably come a little later in the year.

Eye Makeup (Non-palettes)

I’ve tried many eye primers over the years, and the Milani brand is one of my favorites. It goes on clear, so it has a transparent base. It’s tacky, but once you set it with a natural shadow shade, it works very well at holding your makeup while allowing the eyeshadow to easily blend. Milani is an affordable, drugstore brand, and I would definitely recommend this eye primer.

My friend Priyanka was sent some Sephora brow products in PR, so she gave me a couple of shades that wouldn’t work for her. I love the brow shaper pencil. It’s a perfect shade for me, and so easy to work with. I want to get as much use of it as I can (and finish it up quickly). The Essence Long Lasting eye pencil is a really nice eyeliner, and easy to use. It should go pretty quickly also, because it’s a product I use pretty frequently.

Face Makeup

Highlighters

I have a couple of highlighters I want to focus on this year for my project pan. Highlighters and eyeshadow palettes are probably my favorite makeup products, so this category has me very intrigued. Hitting pan in highlighters has always been fairly easy for me (I want to be able to be seen from space), so I can’t wait to see the progress in these.

First in the highlighter category is Flexitarian by Colourpop. This is one of their Super Shock Highlighters, which is a favorite formula of mine. This shade is one of my favorites of all time, and I love using it. I’ve already hit pan on it, so I want to try to use the entire thing up.

Next, my Jouer highlighter in Rose Quartz. I’ve also already hit pan on this highlighter, so I want to just focus on expanding the pan. This formula is one of my favorites for highlighters, and once I use some of these up I may purchase it in a different shade (this is why project panning is so useful!).

Natasha Denona’s Super Glow highlighter is amazing. It is high end, but it is so worth it. The pan is huge, and there’s a ton of product. It’ll last me quite a while. There’s already a little bit of pan in this highlighter, so I want to work on expanding that this year. This shade is beautiful on pale skin (AKA me, and I’m using the shade fair), and it gives a subtle but beautiful glow.

Fenty Beauty released their highlighter duos a couple of years ago, and I had to pick this duo (Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal) up immediately. Both shades in here are gorgeous, and they work well as highlighters and as eyeshadows (it’s so easy to create a neutral eye look with them). I included this duo in my Harry Potter project pan, and I now have pan in both shades. My goal is to just expand the pan as much as possible (these are some of my go-to highlighters when I want a golden sheen instead of a pink or neutral sheen, which is what I normally lean toward in a highlighter).

Winky Lux started as an Indie brand, but they’ve recently been added to Ulta and Target. They have some really unique products, and I really like these two strobing balms. They’re a cream formula, and they make the skin look glossy, which is my favorite type of highlighter. The shades Lit and Bubbly are in my collection, and both already have pan showing. I’d like to ideally use these up completely, but as long as I make some progress in them I’m happy.

Blushes

I really want to focus on two blushes this year. I’ve had blushes in my project pans in the past, and I know they’re hard to use up. I don’t necessarily want to hit pan on either of these, but I do want to focus on them and use them as much as I can (hitting pan will be a huge bonus if it happens).

The Physician’s Formula Butter Blush is gorgeous. I love this shade when I’m at my palest. It’s a beautiful color for fair skin, and the formula is also really nice. Plus, the PF Butter line smells amazing, so it’s like a tropical breeze every time I apply this blush.

Tarte blushes are some of my favorites too, and this shade is another favorite. I generally alternate between the two anyway, so it may be possible to even hit pan on one or both (my money is on Physician’s Formula if it happens).

Primers & Setting Spray

There are three primers I want to focus on this year for my project pan: Soap & Glory Hocus Focus (no longer available), Benefit Porefessional, and Smashbox Primerizer. The Smashbox and Hocus Focus primers are great for adding moisture to my face (great for dry skin), and I really enjoy both of them. My Smashbox primer is a deluxe sample and is almost out, so it should be easy to use up. I use the Benefit primer to focus on blurring out my large pores on my nose and cheeks close to my nose, and it’s one of my favorites.

I’d heard great things about the Morphe Continuous Setting Spray, so a friend who didn’t care for it asked me if I wanted it. I’ve been using it, and I can’t quite tell if I like it or not. I’m going to add it to my project pan to try to use it up, and I’ll report back after I try it a little more.

Skincare

I’ve been working hard on my Philosophy moisturizer. I’ve been using it daily, morning and night, so it should be gone fairly quickly. I want to completely use it up – to improve my skin, first of all, but also to move onto a new product that’s been waiting to be opened project pans are very helpful for motivating me to finish up current products and move onto some of my backups).

I picked up this Circadia Oil Cleanser during a facial a couple of years ago. It was my first time using an oil cleanser, and I really like it. It’s really helped my dry skin, and has made me want to stick with oil cleansers. There’s still quite a bit of product left (it doesn’t take much), so I want to focus on using it up this year and moving onto a new cleanser.

Last but not least, I have a few bottles of the Ulta Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. This reminds me of the Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover, and it’s wonderful (but more easily accessible and more affordable). It truly does a good job of easily removing all eye makeup, including waterproof mascaras and liquid lipsticks. I’m close to the bottom of this particular bottle, so I want to use it up ASAP so I can move onto one of my backup bottles.

What do you think about this project? If you’ve done project pans in the past, do you have any advice for me? I feel like I have a bit of experience now (this is my third full year of panning), but I always like to hear new input!
